India is richly endowed with coal reserves, holding approximately 7% of the world’s total coal resources. A majority of this—around 85%—is non-coking coal, which forms the backbone of key industries such as power generation, cement manufacturing, and sponge iron production. However, much of this coal is of inferior quality, with high ash content, and the availability of high-grade coal is rapidly depleting.
To meet this growing industrial demand and enhance the quality of coal, M/s Chhattisgarh Power & Coal Beneficiation Ltd. (CPCBL) is undertaking a technological upgrade of its existing 1.25 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum) Fluidized Bed Bath Coal Washery at Sirgitti, Bilaspur. The project involves a complete transition to a more advanced and efficient Heavy Media Cyclone Process.
This upgraded washery is designed to beneficiate F Grade coal with approximately 45% ash content, sourced from the Korba coalfields. The plant will continue to operate at a capacity of 1.25 MTPA (250 TPH), providing improved quality coal for the power, cement, and sponge iron sectors.
Skilled minds powering our success.
Reliable quality for lasting performance.
Heavy Media Cyclone Technology: A robust, high-efficiency washing method suitable for high-ash coal.
Closed-Circuit Water System: Reduces water consumption and environmental impact.
Dry Fog Dust Suppression System: Controls and eliminates fugitive dust emissions, ensuring an environmentally friendly operation.
Classifying Cyclones, High-Frequency Screens, and Thickeners: Enhance separation and recovery of clean coal.
State-of-the-Art Automation: Integrated PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems for process control, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
Project Benefits
1. Supply of consistent quality coal can be ensured thereby avoiding frequent
adjustments in input to kiln / boiler and minimising operators’ error.
2. Increase in effective volumetric capacity of kiln by reducing coal input using
better grade coal thereby increasing plant productivity.
3. Better control on quality of end products.
4. Higher Thermal efficiency of boiler and higher steam rate.
5. Less wear and tear of the coal grinding mills.
6. Lower capital and operating cost for installing smaller ESP.
1)Dry Fog type dust suppression system shall be installed to control floating
dust in the atmosphere to minimum acceptable level.
2) Plant shall have close circuit water circulation system so that no effluent is
discharged in the open outside the plant boundary.
3) Afforestation shall be carried out on reject heaps, dumped in nearby low lying
areas, to restore greenery which may be partially destroyed during
construction.
